Painting the Guest Room

I feel like it has taken me an eternity to get our guest room painted.  Between King Silas naps and late night painting sessions I am finally finished with the trim and walls.  The fresh white trim works wonders in a room and I am loving the new color, it's called Tightrope and of course I used Olympic.  The original color that covered the entire house (besides the knotty pine and fake paneling) was such an awful dingy yellowish beige and now it is almost all gone (insert victory dance here) just one little half bath to go!  I have a few pics to share, I am still working on a lot of other things in that room so I don't have a full view shot yet.  Closets are getting an update, other pieces of furniture are getting updates, lighting is getting an update - and all on a budget.  Hopefully I will have some more things to share with you this week, I'm really liking the way things are coming together in there.

So I had to show you the difference in the dried paint and wet paint.  When I first started painting I got a little scared that the paint was not what I wanted, it seemed very light but wow did it darken when it dried.  You can see the darker band was my first coat and then the lighter on top was the second - still wet.  Crazy the difference huh?

For some reason to me dingy beige trim and matching dingy beige walls just makes me uncomfortable, I can feel relaxed and comfortable now that the dinge is gone.

In The Works

Just a few things we have been working on...

Yay!  We (Justin) finally got motivated and started putting up our new kitchen cabinet hardware!  Little by little this kitchen is starting to look finished.  

Trim and walls painted in the family room - check.

Some shade and privacy action now going on in the family room - this is a much welcomed addition.

Yes, that is our master bedroom all painted and pretty - no more master cave, hooray!

We spent a lot of time decorating our spare bedroom this weekend, doesn't it look nice?...ok maybe not but just thought you might want to laugh at how crazy it looks in there.  This is currently our "we don't know where to put this stuff yet room", it's serving it's purpose nicely right now.

Some Progress

Before we had to officially move in to the new place we had several days to work on some painting.  The first big job we were aiming to tackle was the kitchen.  This is probably the most time consuming part of the house as far as painting goes.  Everything from trim, cabinets, doors, paneling, walls - all of it needed painting.  Something I am starting to learn is that I do not estimate time for jobs very well.  Pretty much I need to add an extra 3 days to everything I'm doing I guess.  Anyway, we did get the kitchen fully painted before having to move in and we are sooooo glad that part is over (and I know my parents are too).  Painting paneling was actually pretty easy, a good coat of oil based primer and a couple coats of paint did the trick, pretty simple.  Painting knotty pine proved to be a little trickier.  These cabinets are old and I think covered in 40 years of grease so we had some streaking issues to conquer - which we did thankfully.  I'll put up a full post on what we did soon.  We also encountered a few other problems that we will tell you about soon as well.  Let's just say, that's where the extra 3 days came into play.  All in all we are pleased with how everything turned out and the kitchen doesn't even look like the same room anymore.  It's bright and fresh, perfect!
