Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day everyone (unless of course you are a dude)!!!  This year is totally different at our house because for the first time we have a mother living here with us.  Mother’s Day has always been about our moms (and still is), mamaws and grandmas (still is as well) and other family and friends (you guessed it, still is), but today I get to celebrate the mother of my son Silas.  Over the last couple of years this day has been pretty weird (borderline tough) for us.  I think one of the reasons is because Megan and I wanted to have kids so bad but we just felt like God wanted us to wait for a little bit.   It can be tough following God sometimes and this was definitely one of those things that we struggled with and questioned.  I wrote earlier about how there were many nights that we cried ourselves to sleep over this, but God showed us His perfect timing by giving us our amazing kid Silas

I have always wanted to have kids for a lot of different reasons.  One of the biggest reasons was because I knew how bad Megan wanted to be a mom and how great she would be at it.  I don’t want to brag but I was totally right.  There are certain things that people are just born to do.  John Steinbeck was born to write, Michael Jordan was born to play basketball, Francis Chan was born to preach, I was born to sit in front of the television and watch the Red Sox and Megan was born to be this fabulous mom.  I am not saying that being a mom defines Megan because there are so many things that come together that make her the woman that she is.  I am just saying that she is just so natural at being a mom; it is something that is just so super difficult that she just seems to handle with such ease and grace.

It is something quite wonderful to see a child love their mom the way that Silas loves his.  One of my favorite things to do is get Silas in the morning (after debating with Megan over who will get him) and bring him in to see his mom first thing.  Now when I open the door and free him from the prison known as his crib he is super happy, but when I bring him into our room and he sees his mom he is simply overjoyed.  I love watching his face light up and this sweet toothless smile come to his face.  You could not ask for a happier kid in the whole world than when Silas is with his mommy.

There is no way that I could ask for a better mom to be a parent with.  I am so super grateful for the mom that she is.  I think that is because she has taken the word of Philippians 2:3-5 to heart:

“Do nothing out of selfish desire or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset of Christ Jesus”

I think that is what it takes to be a great mom.  You always have to be thinking about others over yourself.  Megan has always had this down pat, but over the last six months I have seen it magnified.  Thank you to all of you moms out there who live like this daily.  You all are huge role models and examples to all of us; I know that Megan is to me.  I love you babe (and Silas says he loves you too).  Actually he just said d;lshgpodsuhgjsadnvn;ksayg (but I am pretty sure he meant I love you).  Thanks for being the greatest mommy in the world!  For a gift I am taking you to IKEA (this is a gift that all of your readers will enjoy as well I believe, the gift that will keep on giving).
