Etsy Treasury - Vintage Inspiration

I really am so in love with all things vintage, especially for the home.  Vintage items just add so much interest, personality and classic style.  I love to think about the stories that could be behind an old piece and wonder what tales it could tell.  Here are some great vintage finds for the home that offer lots of  inspiration that I found looking through Etsy.  There are so many awesome and interesting vintage treasures buried in the land of Etsy that need to be discovered - this is just a sampling.

Quick Break and Things to Come

We're taking a quick break from all things house and home to talk about a few things that are close to our heart and also share with you some details about what will be coming up in the future on this little blog.  I have a sweet friend who has a wonderful blog called Domestic But Not Martha who has begun a prayer movement that we would love to share with you.  It's simply called I Pray For My Enemies.  Crystal has such a sweet Godly heart and a desire to spread God's love with others, and shouldn't we all have that desire?  Let's join in together and make a daily effort to pray for our enemies and those that might have hurt or wronged us in the past.  God's word is clear about this command - "But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matt 5:44),  "If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink" (Prov: 25:21), "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you" (Luke 6:27).  Praying for our enemies allows us to be free from any bitterness that might be stirring inside of us.  Ephesians 4:31-32 says, "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."  If you want to read more about Crystal's burden to spread this message make sure to check out her blog here or you can simply click on the button on my sidebar.

God's word is so important to us, it's the way God speaks and communicates with us.  In the past, Justin and I have worked together to memorize scripture as a way of understanding God's word better and growing a closer relationship with Him.  We want to start that again and want to invite everyone to join in with us.  Each Sunday we will post a new verse for the week for all of us to memorize and study together.  We are really excited about this and we'll be showing you how we are going to incorporate it into our everyday lives and our home.

And finally, starting next week we are so excited to begin sharing with you some amazing artists and crafters each week from Etsy.  If you don't know about Etsy you can check out my post about it here.  We have some great shops lined up to share with you and many of those shops have generously donated items for giveaways!  So starting next week be on the look out for our first giveaway and join in!

Thanks for letting us pause for a minute today and share with you a few non-related remodeling things.  I guess we can say we are remodeling our hearts as well, not just our homes.  We are so blessed to have so many wonderful readers, you guys are the best!

Little Details

So continuing on with Silas' nursery this week, I wanted to share a few little items from his room that really make it special and personal.  I am a lover of all things handmade so I was thrilled when so many talented people showered us with beautiful handmade items and have given Silas something he can cherish for a long time.  I also made a few Etsy purchases along the way that added extra personality and uniqueness to his room (if you don't know about Etsy you can read about it here).

One of the biggest issues I had when decorating was choosing bedding for his crib.  I just didn't like the matchy-matchy crib in a bag sets and everything seemed either too cheesy or girly.  So my mom and I started searching for something different and ended up choosing a little handmade quilt made by Etsy artist Clevelandgirlie and it is perfect.  Her detail and workmanship is so lovely.  I love that it is something that Silas will have forever and it's not too babyish so he can use it for a while.

One of my favorite items is a little handmade crotchet cat that one of our sweet students made for Silas.  She surprised us with it at our baby shower and I just fell in love with it.  She is so talented.  My niece has already requested one for herself because she thinks it's the coolest thing ever, she reminds me of this every time I see her.

Silas' artwork was another Etsy purchase we made from artist Kait.er.piller.  She was so sweet to purchase from and included several free items and a kind note (I love the little personal touches you get when purchasing from an etsy artist!) I have had so many compliments and queries about his little artwork.  It's the cutest little thing.  I love how simple and sweet it is.

An animal baseball team...let's just call this perfection.

Ok, the next thing was a huge surprise for both Justin and I.  This rocking horse was made by another Silas who is the grandfather of two sweet students of ours.  This is so special to us and I know it will be special to Silas one day as well and I can't wait to tell him that another Silas made it for him, how sweet!

Another talented and sweet friend at church made the most awesome painted letters for us.  She is such a great artist and is always sharing her talents with others and for the church.  I love looking at all of the little details in her painting and I can just picture Silas discovering all of the little details in her work one day too.

Finally, the last thing is Silas' bible.  It's not handmade but it was written for him by our creator (the most talented and creative being ever) and it's the most precious thing we could have given him.  This was our first Christmas present to him and more than anything I can't wait to see him reading it.

I hope you enjoyed taking a closer peek into our little house and Silas' nursery.  The little details are what truly make your house your home.  Now it's your turn, comment and share with us some of your favorite little details that you love about your home.

Something Fun - Etsy Treasury

If you have never heard of Etsy - www.etsy.com, please allow me to introduce you.  Etsy is your place to buy and sell all things handmade and vintage.  Everything listed on Etsy is either a handmade item from a talented crafty artist or is a cool vintage/antique find.   Etsy allows artists and crafters to stake a claim on this crazy world wide web to showcase and sell their fabulous creations.  It's a wonderful place to find something different, something one of a kind or something fun.  There really isn't much that hasn't been made and put on Etsy - it's pretty awesome.  The cool thing about buying from Etsy is that most of the time you're helping to support a talented artist/stay at home mother who is striving to help support her own home and family, so why wouldn't you want to buy from them?  I have a little etsy shop where I sell my handmade jewelry and have met some wonderful people all over the country (and even a few across the world!) that have turned out to be great friends and have helped me in various ways when it came to my etsy shop.  Treasuries are something that etsy has designed to let you showcase and promote other etsy shops and I have to say I'm a little addicted to making/browsing them.  Here is a recent treasury I made on Etsy full of items that I am drooling over for my own home.  So, when you have some time, mosey on over and check out Etsy, you will be glad you did!
